Quick Facts
EN 1.4462 (UNS S31804) is a corrosion and acid resistant austenitic-ferritic chrome-nickel-molybdenum steel, also known as duplex stainless steel. The nickel content is lower than in conventional corrosion resistant austenitic steel, which makes it stands out on economic point of view. Due to its duplex austenite and ferrite microstructure, 1.4462 duplex is superior to austenitic steels regarding intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion. The duplex grade is magnetic.

Characteristics
The 1.4462 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in acid environments and in media that contain chloride, such as sea water, steam, sulphuric acid, nitric acid etc.). It has high resistance to intergranular, pitting and stress corrosion cracking. Mechanical properties are very good – high hardness and yield strength, while machinability and weldability are difficult for this material.
Weldability: fair
Machinability: poor
Polishability: yes
